The Cancer Society of New Zealand has also created an Outdoor Workers' Policy and Guide to help employers protect those workers most at risk from sun exposure. In New Zealand, 14.5% of workers work outdoors – this is quite a significant percentage of the workforce that is exposed daily to excessive and harmful UV radiation.
Employers play an important role in ensuring their workers are protected from too much sun exposure. This includes having appropriate policies and practices in place for their outdoor workers, which include providing appropriate clothing, shade and sunscreen. The Cancer Society’s Outdoor Workers' Policy will help employers put such policies in place.
