Sun Protection Alert Data provided by NIWA

What does the Sun Protection Alert mean?

In the example on the left, the key message is that you need to protect your skin and eyes from 10.50am to 3.30pm. Protection is required when UV radiation is damaging (when UV levels are 3 or higher).

The Sun Protection Alert also reminds you about some of the SunSmart steps to use  - in this example, wear a hat and sunglasses.

Where else can I see the Sun Protection Alert?

From September to April (the daylight saving months), the Sun Protection Alert is available on the MetService website and weather App and in the weather section of the main newspapers.

For New Zealand ski fields, check NIWA's UV forecasts.
